Despite recent progress, BIPOC artists are still highly underrepresented, leaving the arts field sorely lacking in diversity.
A recent study found that 85.4% of works across 18 museums in the US were created by white artists, with only 1.2% coming from Black artists and just 2.8% from Hispanic/Latino artists. In order to broaden the perspectives reflected in art, it’s critical to uplift artistic BIPOC students.
This scholarship seeks to support first-generation BIPOC high school students who are passionate about pursuing careers in the arts.
Any first-generation, BIPOC high school senior who is a US citizen, has non-profit or community service experience, has at least a 2.4 GPA, and is pursuing visual, studio, or performing arts disciplines may apply for this scholarship.
To apply, tell us why you’re passionate about the arts. Give us a creative example (short film, original song, etc) of why you’re interested in the arts and how you hope to improve the world through your artistic career.

The “You Will Be Found” College Essay Challenge is open to all 11th and 12th grade students attending a public, private, and charter high school or homeschool equivalent in the United States and American Territories during the 2021-2022 academic year. Challenge open to US residents only. Presented in partnership with the Broadway and National Tour productions of Dear Evan Hansen, the program recognizes excellence in storytelling and promotes student engagement with the production.
Dear Evan Hansen, at its core, is a story about connection. The theme for the 2021-2022 academic year is as follows:
Evan Hansen and his peers are coming of age, but the adults in their lives are in many ways still figuring themselves out, too. As you look ahead to life after high school and starting college, do you view this time in your life as a precipice or a continuum? Will you introduce a “new you” into a fresh community, or further shape the best version of yourself as you explore new horizons?
We invite you, the 11th-grade and 12th-grade students to write a college-application style essay (no longer than 650-words) that describes your experiences with or ideas about reinvention, at any stage of your life.

To honor the legacy of Mary Bowman and support other accomplished young art activists ("artivists") like her, the National AIDS Memorial has partnered with ViiV Healthcare to create the Mary Bowman Arts in Activism Award. Student and non-student art activists are welcome to apply for this award. These $5,000 awards are intended to support young artivists (27 years of age or younger) each year who exemplify Mary’s passion for the arts as the vehicle for their own HIV/AIDS and/or health and social justice community activism and expression. Recipients of the Mary Bowman Arts in Activism Award use their art and activism to raise greater awareness about bigotry, stigma, and social justice around the issue of HIV/AIDS and/or health and social inequities that fuel the spread of the disease.
This Award supports arts and culture programs that engage and inspire individuals and communities in the fight against HIV/AIDS, and recognizes the power of culture to break down stigma and isolation. Mary Bowman was an icon of hope and resilience, and performed at the 2018 ViiV Healthcare Youth and Community Summit where she inspired leaders across the movement, one of many examples of Mary used her voice and art to make a difference.
In addition to the age limit (27 and younger) and the judges understanding of - and response to - each applicant's examples of their art activism submissions, judges will be reviewing each application to confirm that the applicant has thoroughly addressed the prompts, and meets the requirements, detailed in our Application Requirements.

This scholarship was created in 2007 by Nikki Coyote for lesbians studying theater or visual arts with a commitment to social justice.
About this Scholarship:
Patricia Van Kirk, our dear and beloved friend, died unexpectedly on March 23, 2005 at the age of 54 in Mazatlan, Mexico. She was born on Nov. 26, 1950 in Philadelphia.
Patricia, a breast cancer survivor, was an avid photographer, gardener, and world traveler who had a tender appreciation for God’s creations. She blessed her loved ones with her insight, wisdom, passion for life, and wonderful wit. Patricia had a unique ability to see the beauty in the things and people around her, and to draw all of us who knew her into her compassionate vision.
Patricia valued diversity and was gifted at helping people see their own worth. She touched many lives through her work as Director of Front Room Theater and Hidden Histories, and through her position at Metro Transit as a Base Chief.
We will remember Patricia for her love, laughter, generosity, wisdom, and for the value she placed on friendships. She lives in every flower, sunset, and magic moment. We will miss her for always and will love her forever. We will honor her life by our own acts of kindness.
The Patricia Van Kirk Memorial Scholarship extends her legacy and passion for life, humanity, and beauty to a new generation of theatre and visual arts scholars.

Paul and Daisy Soros, Hungarian immigrants and American philanthropists, established their Fellowship program for New Americans—immigrants and children of immigrants—in December of 1997 with a charitable trust of fifty million dollars. They created the program as a way to give back to the country that had afforded their family such great opportunities.
Mr. and Mrs. Soros decided on a fellowship program because it allowed them to assist young New Americans at critical points in their educations, which they felt was an unmet need. They also wished to call attention to the extensive and diverse contributions of New Americans to the quality of life in the United States.
The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans program is intended for immigrants and children of immigrants in the United States.

The PINC Scholarship is awarded in recognition that Poverty Is Not a Choice. It is named after a documentary of the same name which received the Mayor's Choice Award at the Lincoln Mayor's Arts Awards in June 2016. This documentary, made by 9 high school and college students and aired on NET TV, related several stories about children's day-to-day realities with living in poverty. It is the donor's hope that this award will be received by someone who has been directly affected by poverty who could not otherwise attend college but who would benefit from specialized study in their chosen art or music field.
To be eligible to apply, you must be a senior or graduate of public or private Lancaster Co high school, or a home-schooled senior, who is majoring in the arts. There is a preference for home school students. The applicant must demonstrate extreme financial need – only applicants with an EFC (expected family contribution from FAFSA report) under $5,000 will be accepted. The applicant must demonstrate a record of participation in music or the arts. Previous recipients will be eligible if they maintain 2.5 GPA or above in college. First preference will go to previous PINC Scholarship recipients who re-apply, meet stated criteria, and have maintained a college GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Sub Pop Records is extremely proud to announce the return (for our 17th year!) of the Sub Pop Loser Scholarship. Further details on the scholarship are below, and even further below is some clarification on what we mean with all this “Loser” business.
Sub Pop Records is offering a grand total of $18,000 in college scholarship money to three eligible high school seniors. There are three scholarships—each for $6,000! As longtime, proud losers ourselves, we’re exceedingly happy to be able, in some small way, to help further the education of art-enthused misfits from the NW. Individuals from all cultures and communities are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be residents of Washington or Oregon, and graduating seniors on the way to full-time enrollment at an accredited university or college. We are looking for applicants who are involved and/or interested in music and/or creative media and arts in some way. However, you do not need to be pursuing an education in the arts.
To apply: you must submit an essay, one page or less, using any combination of the following questions as a guide (or write something completely your own, be inspired and creative!). Please list the school you are graduating from and the school you plan to attend in the fall at the top of your essay along with your contact information.

Thea scholarships are awarded solely on talent, never on test scores, GPAs or intent to major in the arts. That means that whether you want to be a ballet dancer or a biochemist, your Thea scholarship is applicable. Your scholarship will travel to any college you attend, but if you choose to attend one of our dozens of education partners, including almost every 4-year college and many 2-year colleges in Arkansas, your scholarship could be matched with thousands more dollars in scholarship money. Furthermore, Thea scholarships are open to all Arkansas high school seniors from public, private and charter schools, homeschooled seniors and those seeking their GED, but please read our rules and regulations carefully to be sure you qualify.

Diane Whitt, club member (and popular local teacher) dreamed of a music scholarship for a deserving senior. Our club embraced the idea and the rest is music history! Our scholarship is open to all graduating Mississippi high school seniors. Each spring, a panel of judges reviews submissions and narrows it down to ten finalists who perform live for our club. A vote is taken and the winner is announced on-stage.
The rules are simple:
You must be a resident of Mississippi and enrolled as a senior at a Mississippi high school and be graduating in 2023.
You must sing, dance, or play a musical instrument and submit a performance video for review by the selection committee by uploading to YouTube (do not mail in DVDs). There is a line below on this form to submit a link to your video.
If chosen as a semi-finalist you will be invited to perform live at the Finale to be held in Tupelo, MS in March or April 2023.
You MUST be able to perform at the Live Finale or otherwise forfeit. (Travel expenses WILL NOT be provided.)
You must be going to attend college, but it is not required that you be enrolled in a musical program. Any Community College or 4-Year University of your choice is acceptable.
You must enter into a contract detailing the Scholarship winnings with the Tupelo Elvis Fan Club.
