Award-Winning Lyricist Marilyn Bergman Has Died at 93

According to deadline.com, Marilyn Bergman passed away at 1:15 this morning in her Los Angeles residence. Her husband and musical collaborator, Alan Bergman, and daughter, Julie Bergman, were at her bedside. At the age of 93, the award-winning lyricist and seventeen-time Oscar nominee died of non-Covid related respiratory problems.

Legendary Actor Sidney Poitier Dies at 94

Poitier made history as the first African American actor to win an Academy Award for Best Actor for Lilies of the Field in 1963. Poitier was seen on Broadway in A Raisin in the Sun, Anna Lucasta, and Lysistrata. His life is set to be the subject of an upcoming play, titled Sidney, directed by Tony-winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson.

Allan Larson, Father of Jonathan Larson, Has Passed Away

Allan, along with his late wife Nanette, and daughter Julie, created the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation following the playwright’s death in 1996. From 1997 to 2008, the foundation awarded grants to musical theatre composers, lyricists and book writers. Following the 2008 grants, the program was shifted to the American Theatre Wing, where it continues as the Jonathan Larson Grants.

Director Jean-Marc Vallée Dies At 58

Il Divo was formed by Simon Cowell in 2003 as a modern, Three Tenors-style quartet. The covered songs between opera and pop. María appeared with the group on Broadway during Il Divo's limited Broadway engagement.

West End to Dim its Lights In Honor of Stephen Sondheim

WhatsOnStage has just reported that the West End will dim its lights in honor of late theatre legend Stephen Sondheim. Sadly, the composer and lyricist passed away at 91 on November 26th. The tradition to dim the lights of theaters to pay respect to the greatest contributors of theatre continues with Sondheim's passing. The lights of London's West End theaters will be dimmed on November 29th at 7pm for two minutes.
