The UTA Department of Music is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) with a world-renowned faculty and approximately 435 graduate and undergraduate students. The Music Department offers performance opportunities for both majors and non-majors alike, with a full complement of Band, Choral, Jazz, and Orchestral ensembles, including many small chamber groups. Located in the Fine Arts Building, the department is home to Irons Recital Hall, a brand-new, world-class recording studio, and many talented students. The mission of the UTA Department of Music is to create an environment where individuals are inspired to become innovative and creative musical leaders by offering integrated curricular content, skill development, and exceptional programming relevant to a culturally diverse urban community. The Music Department's goals and objectives for academic and artistic enrichment of the university and the extended community include: (1) offering curricula leading to a baccalaureate degree and graduate programs that provide students with the opportunity to realize their inherent musical potential, (2) offering degree options that recognize and nurture students’ abilities and talents to make contributions of excellence in the fields of music, and (3) preparing students for further graduate study and/or professional careers in music by meeting curricula criteria, performance standards, and academic expectations.
