Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre

As an inherently interdisciplinary liberal arts program, the Theatre Arts degree evidences the reading, writing, speaking, and research skills sought by prospective employers and professional schools. Many theatre arts majors are successful in law school, mass communications, public relations, and other fields. Various degree programs are available. The theatre program offers academic study and hands-on learning in the areas of acting, directing, production, costuming, set design and construction, sound, lights, theatre management, children's theatre, playwriting, movement and voice for actors, theatre history, and dramaturgy. By actively participating in all facets of theatre production, students develop performance, technical and analytical skills. The department produces a variety of theatrical events each semester. The mission of the Piedmont University Theatre Department is to provide rigorous academic training for students in both performance and technical theatre, to provide audiences with quality productions of the highest caliber, to explore the full range of theatrical offerings from the classical to the contemporary, and to foster professionalism, creativity, and camaraderie. The theatre department performs its shows in the Swanson Center Mainstage Theater, Swanson Center Black Box Theater, and at the Arrendale Amphitheatre.

Review: MRS. DOUBTFIRE at Blumenthal Performing Arts
by Perry Tannenbaum - May 03, 2024

Pardon me a second, but I seem to be noticing stretch marks on my suspension of disbelief. Three nights before the curtain rose on the touring version of MRS. DOUBTFIRE that rolled into Belk Theater, I saw a rather fine production of Twelfth Night across town at Central Piedmont College. Since both of the brief runs include at least one matinee between now and Sunday, my experience of seeing two wives who fail to identify their true husbands can be intensified, compressed into the space eight hours, if you wish, after my relatively relaxed 75-hour exercise.

BWW Review: BNS Productions Encore Presentation: MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM at Duke Energy Theater
by Vickie Evans - September 10, 2021

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom is one of ten of August Wilson's productions about the African American experience. Ma Rainey depicts the life of the famous blues singer, Gertrude 'Ma' Rainey, and Black Bottom is one of the songs she made famous. BNS Productions, based in Charlotte, NC, did an excellent job of bring this awesome work the the stage...with a twelve day running from August 11-22. It was sold-out many nights. So, as a result of its awesomeness, it is returning on September 12 for an encore performance.
