Edward Albee, three-time Pulitzer Prize and two-time Tony Award-winning playwright, will be recognized with the 2013 Chicago Tribune Literary Prize for lifetime achievement. The prize will be awarded tonight, November 3 as part of a day of literary events co-presented by the Chicago Tribune's Printers Row program and the 24th annual Chicago Humanities Festival.

For the second year in a row, producers Eugene Dizon and Cory Goodrich have recorded a new album of holiday music, SEASON OF CAROLS 2013, which features nearly one hundred Chicago theatre artists, singers and musicians. This entirely new holiday CD was produced to raise funds for Season of Concern, which supports Chicago artists in need. SEASON OF CAROLS 2013 is available pre-order at www.seasonofcarols.com and will be kicked-off with a special concert on Monday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Mercury Theater Chicago.

Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch announced touring plans for both the professional company and Houston Ballet II, the second company, for the 2013-2014 season today. During Mr. Welch's tenth anniversary as artistic director, touring engagements will take Houston Ballet to New York City, Paris, Montreal, and Chicago.

The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) announced casting today for two theatrical productions in November: White Rabbit, Red Rabbit, the Iranian absurdist play about isolation co-presented with the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), running Nov. 3-9, 2013, and Birds Do It, Bees Do It..., the annual cabaret performance Nov. 5, 2013, created by Rob Lindley and Doug Peck.

Soprano Susanna Phillips - winner of the Metropolitan Opera's Beverly Sills Artist Award in 2010 - is a singer who 'demonstrates rare stylistic fluency, canny pathos and dynamic finesse,' according to the Financial Times, which added: 'Susanna Phillips - remember the name.' The Alabama-born soprano has a higher profile than ever during 2013-14, including her sixth consecutive season at the Metropolitan Opera. Phillips starts her Met season tonight, portraying Fiordiligi in Mozart's Così fan tutte under the baton of music director James Levine in his long-awaited return to the podium. The Dallas Morning News declared her to be 'a glorious Fiordiligi, her soprano honeyed and agile.' This Così runs until October 5, with a return in the spring; the final performance, onApril 26, will be transmitted to audiences worldwide in the Met's ever-popular Live in HD series. Phillips will also sing the role of Rosalinde in a new staging of Johann Strauss's Die Fledermaus by two-time Tony Award-winner Jeremy Sams as part of the Met's New Year's Eve gala, with performances until February 22. At the Met again in April, she plays Musetta in Puccini's La bohème, reprising the role in which she made her house debut in 2008. After a recent Met performance, the New York Times said: 'Phillips sparkled as the sassy Musetta, her bright, nimble soprano tinged with a coquettish flair.' The April 5 La bohème will be her first Live in HD broadcast of the season. Phillips has been praised by the Aspen Times for her 'heart-tugging phrasing' in the role of Ellen Orford in Britten's Peter Grimes; she takes up the role again in a concert performance of Peter Grimes with David Robertson and the St. Louis Symphony, in Missouri and at Carnegie Hall on the composer's 100th birthday (Nov 22).

The Chicago Philharmonic opens its 2013-2014 season "The Romantic Impulse" with a Sunday evening concert titled "Twilight of the Romantics" on September 29 at 7 p.m. at Pick-Staiger Hall in Evanston. Artistic Director Scott Speck will lead the Chicago Philharmonic through the Romantic era beginning with Strauss' thrilling Don Juan. Soloist Kuang-Hao Huang will perform the rarely heard, one-movement Piano Concerto No. 3 of Pyotr Ilyrich Tchaikovsky. Discover this lesser-known masterwork of one of the world's most beloved composers. The orchestra will then celebrate the centennial of Igor Stravinsky's landmark ballet The Rite of Spring which changed the history of music forever.

Bailiwick Chicago Theater has just announced its 2013-14 Season, featuring two stunning musicals in their Chicago premieres. In March 2014, Artistic Director Lili-Anne Brown directs an intimate production of the stirring musical drama DESSA ROSE by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, the Tony Award-winning team behind Ragtime, Once on This Island and Seussical!, with music direction by Collective Member James Morehead. Immediately following in May 2014 comes a unique resurrection of the 1988 musical CARRIE with book by original screenwriter Lawrence D. Cohen, lyrics by Academy Award-winner Dean Pitchford, music by Academy Award-winner Michael Gore, directed by Collective Member Christopher Pazdernik with music direction by Collective Member Aaron Benham. The 2013-14 Season also marks Bailiwick Chicago's participation in Victory Gardens Theater's inaugural Resident Theater Program. Tickets for the 2013-14 Season will go on sale at a later date.

Wells Fargo Center for the Arts announced four additional shows to be presented in the newly renovated Ruth Finley Person Theater (50 Mark West Springs Road, Santa Rosa) as part of the 2013-14 season. The performances added to the already diverse season include comedian and entertainer George Lopez (December 7), Willie Nelson & Family (December 13), Colin Quinn: Unconstitutional (January 16) and the signature sounds of Chicago (February 11).

Hailing from Chicago, Oceanborn has confirmed the release of their full length debut for September 2013. The album was predominantly recorded in Chicago at the band's studio with drums being tracked by Chris King with Eyal Levi at Audiohammer Studios (Trivium, The Contortionist, Black Dahlia Murder, Daath, & more) in Sanford, FL. It was mixed by metal juggernaut Eyal Levi and mastered by Alan Douches of West West Side Music in New Windsor, NY.

The Apollo Chorus celebrates 142 years of making music as Chicago's oldest premier volunteer chorus with its 2013-2014 season, which features a lineup of classical and contemporary concerts. The season begins with a free "Music in the Neighborhood" Concert on Sunday, November 3 at 3:00 p.m. at The Apostolic Church of God, 6320 S. Dorchester. The music continues in December with two performances of Apollo Chorus's signature rendition of Handel's Messiahon Saturday, December 7 at 3:00 p.m. at Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave., and Saturday, December 21 at 3:00 p.m. at Harris Theater for Music & Dance, 205 E. Randolph Drive. Choral Classics-Mozart's Great Mass in C & Dvorak'sTe Deum will be performed Saturday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. at University of Chicago's Rockefeller Chapel, 5850 S. Woodlawn Ave.; and the season finale Spring Concert, The Beatles & Friends, will be performed Friday, May 2 at 8:00 p.m. at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 126 E. Chestnut Street; and again Sunday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. at First United Church, 848 Lake Street in Oak Park.

The Chicago Fringe Festival kicks off the 2013 Festival. Performances in the fourth annual Chicago Fringe Festival take place in a variety of venues in their new Jefferson Park location, today, August 29 - September 8. Tickets are on sale August 1.
