I AM AN ISLAND is a surrealist dark comedy—think Sarah Ruhl meets Samuel Beckett—set on an island sinking into the sea. Our hero, May, tries to convince others of this truth, but no one will listen. She resorts to a political demonstration by sinking into the sea herself. This play explores the emotional impact of climate change and the struggle to know how to live when it feels out of control. After each performance, join us for talkbacks with our nonprofit partners, Dallas Sierra Club, Environment Texas, Cedar Ridge Preserve, and other local experts to discuss how we can make a tangible difference, even when it can feel overwhelming. Written by Julia Lederer, Directed by Angela Gulner About the Watering Hole Collective The Watering Hole Collective produces socially conscious art that engages, inspires, and cultivates conversation and action within our North Texas community. We collaborate with local nonprofits to highlight their causes and use storytelling to spark meaningful dialogue and communicate diverse perspectives. We endeavor to empower audience members to become involved and make a tangible difference in our community.
