Composed of actual letters between renowned poets Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell, Dear Elizabeth intimately reimagines a correspondence between two of the greatest poets of the 20th century, shedding light on the vulnerability of artistic creation and the enduring power of friendship. Directed by Holly Twyford and featuring celebrated local actors and alumni of Woolly’s Company of Artists, Nancy Robinette and Rick Foucheux, this benefit reading pays tribute to Woolly Mammoth’s enduring collaboration with Sarah Ruhl, one of the most frequently produced playwrights in the theater’s 44-year history. Ruhl’s acclaimed works, such as ‘In the Next Room (or the Vibrator Play),’ ‘The Clean House,’ and the Helen Hayes award-winning ‘Dead Man’s Cell Phone,’ have become staples of Woolly’s repertoire. Additionally, Ruhl is a Pulitzer prize finalist, a Tony Award nominee, and the recipient of the prestigious MacArthur “Genius” grant. Your attendance supports Woolly programs dedicated to empowering local artists. Please note that this special benefit reading cannot be redeemed with a Golden Ticket, making it an exclusive opportunity to directly contribute to our community’s vibrant artistic scene.
Woolly Mammoth Theatre is at 641 D St NW, Washington, DC.
