The Upper Canada Choristers regale music-lovers with show tunes and other selections, and taste-tempting treats at an old-fashioned Strawberry Social fundraiser. Conducted by director Laurie Evan Fraser, the choir performs a medley of show tunes by Richard Rodgers; The Music's Always There With You by John Rutter; and Evan Fraser’s arrangement of Nella Fantasia. Highlight is The Musical Adventures of Jack and Jill, by Sigmund Spaeth. A staged entertainment with costumes and a narrator, the satirical work takes the form of a “lecture-demonstration” in which a pedagogue expounds on the nursery rhyme Jack and Jill as the perfect lyric for a variety of vocal forms: oratorio, Schubert lieder, Italian opera a la Rossini, Wagnerian opera, French chanson, and finally the blues. Tickets, $30, are available at the door, or reserved by calling 416-256-0510. Cash bar available.
Ages: Adults (younger are welcome).
