Largely self-taught French pianist Lucas Debargue became an international sensation after being unanimously chosen winner of the Moscow Critics Prize at the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition. The award goes to "an artist whose incredible gift, artistic vision, and creative freedom have impressed the critics as well as the audience." Debargue performs a selection of sonatas from his new SONY Classical album, Scarlatti: 52 Sonatas; Nicolai Medtner's Sonata in G Minor, and two of the most challenging works in the piano repertoire: Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit, and Liszt's After a Reading of Dante: Fantasia quasi Sonata, S.109. Presented by Show One Productions. 8 p.m.
“Like a young Rimbaud, his touch is poetic and full of dazzling musical imagery – slightly dangerous even.” – Michael Vincent, Toronto Star/Musical Toronto (now Ludwig van Toronto)
