Harbourfront Centre transports audiences to the streets of Morocco with the Canadian premiere of Näss (‘people’ in Arabic) from choreographer Fouad Boussouf, on stage October 26 to 28, 2023, at 7:30pm at Fleck Dance Theatre, as part of the international contemporary dance series Torque. Näss explores and interprets the cross-cultural influences of contemporary and traditional North African dance, urban hip hop and breakdance. The work is also shaped by Boussouf’s upbringing in Morocco - its music and dance traditions - including Gnawa and Reggada. A mystical and universal piece, performed by a cast of seven male dancers, Näss transfixes with its hypnotic and ritualistic rhythms, intense athleticism and acrobatic feats danced to a powerful score by Roman Bestion, Marion Castor and Boussouf.
