2025 AWARDS SEASON

The Theatre World Awards are presented annually at the end of the theatre season to six actors and six actresses for their significant, reviewable, debut performances in a Broadway or Off-Broadway production. The ceremony is a private, invitation-only event followed by a party to celebrate the new honorees and welcome them to the Theatre World 'family.' In what has become a highly entertaining and often touching tradition, 12 previous winners serve as the presenters, and often relive moments from past ceremonies and share wonderful stories rarely heard at other theatrical awards. The 2014 Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards ceremony took place at Paper Mill Playhouse on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7:30pm with an audience of over 1,200. Princeton Day School came out on top, winning Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical for their production of Urinetown. A total of 29 awards were presented along with five scholarships and other cash prizes.

There is little doubt who is the reigning queen of Broadway. With five Tony Awards and eight nominations in just 20 years, Audra McDonald has held that title for quite a while now. In addition to her prolific stage career, she also has found time to do turns on TV and have a recording and touring career. If Audra wins her sixth Tony this Sunday, she will become the first actor to do so in the four major acting categories.

It's Tonys week! On Sunday night, the stars will align at Radio City Music Hall to celebrate the best of Broadway. While Radio City is the place to be for all of this year's nominees, most Broadway fans will have to settle for watching the ceremony, hosted by Hugh Jackman, on the CBS (8pm). Just last night, the Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre were handed out at the Tony Honors Cocktail Party, a private cocktail reception at the Paramount Hotel's Diamond Horseshoe. The Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre were established in 1990 and are awarded annually to institutions, individuals and/or organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in theatre, but are not eligible in any of the established Tony Award categories. This year's Tony Honors will be presented to Joe Benincasa (President & CEO of The Actors Fund), Joan Marcus (Broadway photographer), and Charlotte Wilcox (general manager). Ramin Karimloo has been nominated for a Dora Award for his triumphant turn in the Toronto production of LES MISERABLES presented by Mirvish Productions with Cameron Mackintosh. Karimloo is nominated in the category for Ourstanding Male Performance in a Musical.

The Tony Awards have announced that a limited number of tickets to the 68th Annual Tony Awards will be available to students through a Student Lottery at the Tony Pop-Up Shop on Tuesday, June 3rd.
