Written by Peter Nason and Deborah Bostock-Kelley, A Necessary Conversation is a two-part production that takes an unflinching look at mental health, bullying, gun violence and its aftermath. The show features 47 REASONS TO LIVE, a tale of the inner workings of a potential school shooter and 11:11 explores the adult and teen survivors left behind.
A Necessary Conversation is having its expanded global debut this Saturday night, March 20, at 8pm EST online as part of the 16-show roster of the Voices of Truth Theatre Festival. When the shorter version debuted in 2018 at Straz's TECO Theatre, all ticket sales went to Moms Demand Action Tampa chapter. The play went on to win Broadway World Tampa Bay's Best Actor and Best Actress, and be nominated in 2020 for Best Original Script of the Decade. After the Parkland shooting, the play was expanded to include a teenage voice inspired by the teen activists. Tickets are just $10 and the live Zoom talkback after includes Dr. Edelyn VC and Brianna Jerman - Moms Demand Action, Natasha A. Pierre - NAMI, Freddy Barton - Safe and Sound Hillsborough, the playwrights, and cast. Talkback with writers, cast and community experts follow evening performance.
