Royal intrigues explode onto stage as Donizetti dramatizes the fatal conflict between two Tudor Queens, Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots, bitter rivals both for the throne and for the love of Robert Leicester. Spectacular singing and spine-tingling confrontations take the focus in Matthew Wild’s minimalist staging, premiered to great acclaim in 2015 at the Artscape Opera House.

Violina Anguelov and Noluvuyiso Mpofu return to repeat their powerful portrayals of the conflicted monarchs, with Kamal Khan once again leading the cast, CTO Chorus and CTPO in an inspired reading of Donizetti’s masterly score.
