This past Monday at the New York Public Library’s Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, the stars of Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through The Cotton Patch celebrated the 75th wedding anniversary of Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. Leslie Odom Jr. and Kara Young, who play the roles that Davis and Dee originated in the current revival of Ossie Davis’ critically acclaimed play, read love letters from the couple’s archive that is housed at the Schomburg Center.

The Ensemblist brought together the Broadway community, reuniting performers in Times Square (socially distanced) in a moving tribute to theatre.

Two River Theater presents Oo-Bla-Dee, written by Regina Taylor, featuring original lyrics by Taylor and original music by composer/orchestrator Diedre L. Murray, directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson. The choreography is by Kenneth L. Roberson and the music direction is by George Caldwell, with vocal arrangements by Carol Maillard.

Charlie Brooks and Patrick Ryecart will play Sally and Mike respectively in the UK tour and London run of Torben Betts's new play MONOGAMY, joining the previously announced Janie Dee as Caroline Mortimer. They are joined by Jack Archer as Leo, Genevieve Gaunt as Amanda and Jack Sandle as Graeme.

Linda, the new play by Penelope Skinner (The Ruins of Civilization at MTC, The Village Bike), directed by MTC's award-winning Artistic Director Lynne Meadow (The Assembled Parties, Wit), opens tonight, February 28, at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street). Two River Theater presents James Goldman's The Lion in Winter, directed by Tyne Rafaeli. The press opening is Friday, November 18 at 8pm. Joe's Pub in New York City recently hosted 'Paying the RENT!' with Uncompromising Artistry Productions, a new theatre company based in NYC. The event served as a one-night only rock concert benefit with special guests Anthony Rapp from the original cast of RENT and If/Then, Dee Roscioli, Robin de Jesus, and Daniel Quadrino (Newsies, Wicked), alongside the cast of Uncompromising Artistry Productions' RENT which will be presented at the 2015 Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer in Scotland.

The world premiere of DEE SNIDER'S ROCK & ROLL CHRISTMAS TALE, written by and starring iconic rocker Dee Snider, directed by Adam John Hunter and produced by John B. Yonover in association with Vicki and Bob Liggett, Charles Brennan and Mary and John Cooper, plays the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place (175 E Chestnut) now through Jan. 4, 2015. Walnut Street Theatre opens its landmark 206th season with the wildly entertaining 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL. Directed by Bruce Lumpkin, with choreography by Michelle Gaudette, this outrageous musical comedy is currently in previews and opens on September 10th, running through October 19th on the Walnut's Mainstage. Get swept away by an all-star cast in Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma's lush production of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, which runs August 5 through 9 at the Civic Center Music Hall. The show, which features the popular song 'Send in the Clowns', stars Broadway's own Dee Hoty and George Dvorsky. Called 'heady, civilized, sophisticated and enchanting' by the New York Times, Lyric's production is directed by artistic director Michael Baron and includes an original scenic design, new costumes, and a full orchestra. Earlier this week, legendary actresses of stage and screen, Ruby Dee died at the age of 91. According to sources, the actress was at her home in New Rochelle, NY, surrounded by family members when she passed away.

First produced by Cameron Mackintosh in New York, with Julie Andrews over 20 years ago, the London premiere of Putting It Together stars a stellar, award-winning cast including: David Bedella, Daniel Crossley, Janie Dee, Damian Humbley and Caroline Sheen.

Performances of THE PREACHER AND THE SHRINK, a new play by Merle Good starring Dee Hoty, are now underwawy at The Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Street. The official Opening Night is set for Monday, November 18th at 7 PM and the limited engagement is scheduled to run through January 4th. Written and directed by Stephen Stahl, the musical makes its New York debut having been produced at the Theatre de Boulogne-Billancourt and Theatre du Gymnase Marie Bell in Paris as well as The Donmar Warehouse and The Piccadilly Theatre in London, where it received critical praise and garnered an Olivier 'Best Actress in a Musical' Award nomination for Ms. Bridgewater.
