Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark Photos Page 5 - Broadway

Injured SPIDER-MAN perform Christopher Tierney returned to rehearsals for the musical on Monday, April 25th and BroadwayWorld.com was there with other press to great him upon his return. Lead producer Michael Cohl said last week that Tierney has been cleared to rejoin the show and hopes to be swinging over the audience again on opening night June 14.

BroadwayWorld.com was there to capture the original version's final curtain call and the last performance of the show's 'Geeks' along with the last viewing of director Julie Taymor's vision. After the show, the cast met the press and fans at the stage door!

Following its historic matinee performance on Sunday, April 17, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark will take a brief, three-week hiatus for technical rehearsals before unveiling the new version of the mega musical on Thursday, May 12. The official opening night of the new Spider-Man is set for Tuesday, June 14th at the Foxwoods Theatre (213 West 42nd Street).

Veteran humorist and playwright, Justin Moran, launched 'Spiderman Smackdown', a guerilla theatre project to write, rehearse, and perform a fully realized musical based on the character Spiderman in under 30 days with a budget of $0. Set to open one day before the $65 Million Broadway musical 'Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark' on March 14 (assuming it's not delayed again), Moran's musical will be the first Spiderman Musical to officially open in New York City. Proceeds from tickets purchased for SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK's February 3 performance were donated to The Actor's Fund. Before the show, the cast, along with director Julie Taymor and the show's producers were feted as a Sardi's reception.

Cast member T.V. Carpio officially assumed the role of 'Arachne' in SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, replacing Natalie Mendoza back in early January. BroadwayWorld.com photog Walter McBride went through his extensive photo arrives and dug up some great photos of Carpio at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival where she was promoting another Julie Taymor project - Across the Universe, which she starred in as Prudence!

Christopher Tierney was back at SPIDER-MAN evening, as an audience member. He told the press before the show that he believed in the production, and the crew, wasn't mad at anyone and was hoping to rejoin the show as soon as he possibly could. Before entering the theatre, he spoke to press and showed off his back brace.

Cast member T.V. Carpio officially assumed the role of 'Arachne' in SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, replacing Natalie Mendoza who departed the production last week after suffering a concussion at an early preview. BroadwayWorld.com was there amongst invited press to capture the star (and the rest of the cast) at the stage door post-show.

WCBS TV's Dana Tyler has been granted the first interview with SPIDER-MAN's Christopher Tierney, which will air on WCBS news on January 3, 2011 at 11pm EST. In promos, he tells CBS 2's Dana Tyler that 'I was falling and then I saw once I hit the darkness of the stage, I had to just turn it real quick so I wasn't going to fall on my head and I crashed on my back.'

As previously reported, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark has delayed its opening night (previously set for January 11, 2011) to Monday, February 7. Directed by Julie Taymor and featuring a book by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger, and new music and lyrics by U2's Bono and The Edge, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark is now in previews at Broadway's Foxwoods Theatre (213 West 42nd Street).
