Gente de Teatro Presents CANCUN, a Comedy About the Dreams of What Could Have Been
by Stephi Wild - Mar 13, 2018
Upon receiving the inaugural Bridge Award (Premio Puente) at Sin Muros, the Latina/o Theater Festival held at Stages Repertory last February, Gente de Teatro (Houston, TX) celebrates its 23rd season with a second comedy from Catalan playwright Jordi Galceran: Cancun. Every year without fail, two couples, intimate friends, spend their vacation in a remote location. However, what had always been a perfect scene turns into an intricate and provoking puzzle, drawing a thin line between fantasy and reality. In Cancun, everything seems possible, and the frustrations of every day become entangled with the dreams of what could have been.
John Kelly Exhibition Maps The Legacy Of A Lost Generation
by A.A. Cristi - Feb 13, 2018
Morphing identity, bending gender, mapping space through gesture and singing the song of suffering so exquisite that its high notes touch the exultant limits of transcendence, for over three decades it is fair to say that Kelly has been a foundational figure of the downtown stage. Now, John allows us to see his concurrent practice as a visual artist-more modest and ancillary to his career in hybrid theatrics-but just as central to his aesthetic core, quieter and suffused with a fragile melancholia, and just as revelatory.
Chris Collins and Boulder Canyon Return To The State Theatre With A Tribute To John Denver
by Julie Musbach - Feb 5, 2018
John Denver was one of the top recording artists of an era. He also was an active and recognized humanitarian and environmentalist. Denver's songs such as "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Rocky Mountain High", "Annie's Song", "Back Home Again" and scores of other beloved melodies were an introspection of love, nature, family, and home. Chris Collins, an award-winning singer/songwriter, who leads the band of Boulder Canyon, carries on the musical legacy that John Denver gave to the world. Their tribute makes a return stop at the State Theatre on Saturday, March 3.
