DEEWEE Announce Debut Album From Phillipi & Rodrigo

The latest album release from DEEWEE, the record label run by Soulwax/2manydjs' David and Stephen Dewaele, comes from Phillipi & Rodrigo. 'Paciencia' isthe Brazilian duo's 9-track debut album, recorded, produced and mixed at Studio DEEWEE in Gent (previously featured by Wallpaper). Boasting songs about the cosmos, relationships, nostalgia and signs of the Zodiac, 'Paciencia' will be available from 22 February on all formats.
Yak Shares New Track Featuring Jason Pierce

London trio Yak are proud to share 'This House Has No Living Room,' a standout track from their their sophomore album Pursuit of Momentary Happiness, due February 8, 2019 via Third Man Records / Virgin EMI. The track, which features vocals and slide guitar from none other than J. Spaceman (a.k.a. Jason Pierce of Spiritualized), is accompanied by a Jonny Lu-directed video featuring never-before-seen 8mm footage from the archive of elusive cult photographer and filmmaker John Kayser (courtesy of Jason Brinkerhoff). Cast Announced For The European Premiere Of Agatha Christie's THE MIRROR CRACK'D

Wales Millennium Centre and Wiltshire Creative have today announced casting for the first ever UK stage adaptation of Agatha Christie's much-loved Miss Marple thriller The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side. Colin R Campbell, Suzanna Hamilton, Julia Hills, Katherine Manners, Katie Matsell, Davina Moon, Huw Parmenter and Gillian Saker will join the previously announced Susie Blake and Simon Shepherd. The Mirror Crack'd will be a European Premiere, opening at Salisbury Playhouse on 15 February before touring to Dublin, Cambridge and Cardiff. The Mirror Crack'd will have an Opening Night on 25 February.

It should come as no surprise whatsoever that the opening night audience for NCT's holiday season offering of Disney's The Little Mermaid rewarded the cast and crew with loud cheers, sustained applause and, more importantly, their rapt attention - were it not for the fact that last night's audience was comprised primarily of (how will we say it without offending?) more experienced theater-goers.
Regina Spektor Releases New Single 'Birdsong'

Regina Spektor's new track “Birdsong,” is out today via Sire Records/Warner Bros. Records. The track is prominently featured in the lavish episode, “Panorama,” of the acclaimed Amazon series, The Romanoffs, Matthew Weiner's Mad Men follow-up. Regina and Matthew's collaboration was the natural outcome of a relationship formed when the two met at an event honoring Orange is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan and producer Shonda Rhimes. Their friendship was cemented when the two bonded over poetry, music, the creative process and their shared infatuation with Paul Simon at the American Academy of Poets' Poetry and the Creative Mind in 2016.

Tan Dun Conducts The Orchestra Now Including US Premiere of his Cello Concerto

The Orchestra Now (T?N) begins its third Rose Theater season at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 3pm. Led by the renowned conductor, composer, visual artist, and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Tan Dun, the program will be highlighted by the U.S. premiere of his Cello Concerto: Intercourse of Fire and Water, performed by Chinese soloist Jing Zhao in her Lincoln Center debut. The concert also includes another Tan Dun work: Passacaglia: Secret of Wind and Birds, commissioned by Carnegie Hall in 2015 for the National Youth Orchestra of the United States. The music draws on forms from East and West, ancient and modern, and incorporates birdsong produced by smartphone.

For Catherine Birdsong, the animated film version of The Little Mermaid - the 1989 Disney musical fantasy based on the story of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen - was the first movie she remembers ever seeing in a darkened cinema and it continues to elicit memories, to reverberate in her heart, particularly now that she finds herself in rehearsal for the debut of the stage musical at Nashville Children's Theatre.

On November 11, 2018, people everywhere will commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One with events, speeches, prayers, and moments of silence. At The Progress Theatre in Reading, a special performance of Birdsong, Rachel Wagstaff's adaptation of the novel by Sebastian Faulks, is being mounted to commemorate the lives lost to the war, and to raise money for British Legion. I sat down with director Steph Dewar, who told me why Birdsong is special to her, what her cast has done to prepare, and how theatre can help keep history alive.
