Judgement of the Eye at Overtime Theater

The Overtime Theater brings a modern take on a historical drama with their latest production Judgement of the Eye written by Simon Bowler Khan and directed by Blake Hamman. Han Van Meegeren, a struggling Dutch artist, realizes his skill is forgeries and proceeds to sell millions of dollars of fake art. When Germany invades, he is compelled by the SS to sell paintings to Goering, and he makes millions more. At the end of the war, he is accused of selling national treasure to the enemy and is to be executed. He claims the paintings are fakes and to prove it he will paint another. He is given four weeks to paint a new Vermeer or he will be hanged. His story exposes the contradictions of how we perceive and value art, in a tale so absurd, and with a character so flawed, it can only be true.

Performances run August 16 to September 7, 2024, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, with Pay-What-You-Will night on Thursday, August 22 at 8 PM and one Sunday matinee on September 1 at 2 PM.
