Good Company Theatre's seventh season continues with You Bet Your Black Ass, Broadway an original musical revue in honor of Black History Month. With roots in Vaudeville performance, and the syncopated rhythms of Ragtime and Jazz, modern Musical Theatre owes a great deal to the innovations of Black folks. You Bet Your Black Ass, Broadway is a cheeky, vibrant, songful celebration of this history. From the bluesy operetta Porgy and Bess to the hip-hop infused Hamilton, there is something for everyone."Utah has such a musical-rich performance scene. It would be great to see more diverse options from Broadway's expansive songbook than we typically do," Good Company Theatre Founder and Co-Director, and show MC Alicia Washington states. "It's probably the blackest thing you'll see onstage all year.""What a perfect way to showcase just a fraction of the underutilized, and talented Black performers working in Utah theatre," reflects Good Company Theatre Co-Director and local Black woman Camille Washington. "As the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: 'Yes.'"The all Black cast includes: Daisy Allred (Hairspray), Bradley Hatch (Hairspray), Daysha Lassiter (Hairspray), Olivia Lusk (Hairspray), Gray McKenzie (Hairspray), Bradley Hatch (Hairspray), Mack (Hairspray), and Alicia Washington (Hairspray). Songs from Broadway blockbusters such as The Lion King, Big River, The Color Purple, Passing Strange, The Wiz, Dreamgirls, and Kinky Boots. You Bet Your Black Ass, Broadway is suitable for general audiences even though there is a no-no word in the title. This full-length revue runs one weekend, February 14-17, Thursday-Saturday at 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 4pm. Tickets are $20, and can be purchased at www.goodcotheatre.com or at the box office before each performance.Good Company Theatre | 2404 Wall Avenue, Ogden | 801-917-4969
