Cinderella, presented here as a panto, follows a tradition which dates back to 1717, when John Rich introduced the model to British theatre. Pantos present classic fairy tales with lots of laughs for children and adults alike. Traditionally performed during the Christmas season for family audiences, modern pantomime incorporates song, dance, buffoonery, slapstick, cross-dressing, in-jokes, topical references, mild innuendo, and audience participation. Cinderella was conceived and directed by Paul Whitworth at Shakespeare Santa Cruz and was first performed at Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Paul Whitworth, Artistic Director, Marcus Cato, Managing Director.
