DAMN YANKEES, a home run of a Broadway mega-hit and winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, hits it out of the park for you this season! The winning music & lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross and a devilish book by George Abbot make this sporty musical comedy a true American classic. Light, fast-paced and clever, featuring all-American subject matter, an irreverent sense of humor, and a baseball hero that will knock your socks off – no matter what color they are! Throw in unforgettable hits like 'Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo', 'Heart', and of course 'Whatever Lola Wants'...and you're in Baseball Musical Theatre heaven!
Brought to the stage of the iconic Woodstock Playhouse featuring the Woodstock Playhouse Summer Theatre Cast 2018, a regional company of professional performers widely acclaimed for some of the finest performances in our NY & Tri-State region. Featuring Chase Michael Tucker as Joe Hardy, Thomas Dieter as Applegate, and Katherine Winter as Lola, these up-and-comers are not to be missed.
The story is a modern retelling of the Faust legend set during the 1950s in Washington, D.C., during a time when the New York Yankees dominated Major League Baseball. Middle-aged real estate agent Joe Boyd is a long-suffering fan of the pathetic Washington Senators baseball team. Late one night, he sits up late, grumbling that if the Senators just had a "long ball hitter" they could beat "those damn Yankees". Suddenly, the smooth-talking Mr. Applegate - the devil in disguise appears. He offers Joe the chance to become "Joe Hardy", the young slugger the Senators need. Joe accepts, even though he must leave his wife Meg, and the story of the most famous season in Washington Senators history begins..
