The Sound of Music is the final collaboration by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Based on the memoir of Maria Von Trapp, it premiered on Broadway in 1959. Every song from its score became standards known worldwide due to their heartfelt lyrics and melodies. The story of hope and triumph caused “The Sound of Music” to break box-office records with both its stage and film versions. No other musical defines music as the ‘universal language’ more than this spectacular, moving production.
