On Buried Ground, running from September 4 to September 14 at the Christ Church Preservation Trust, explores the hidden histories of Black resilience during Colonial Philadelphia. The performance features dance artist Shayla-Vie Jenkins, playwright Rayne, and director Nia Benjamin, bringing to life the stories of enslaved and free Black individuals through immersive storytelling. Audiences will journey through the historic spaces of Christ Church and its Burial Ground, uncovering the lives of forgotten figures like Alice of Dunk’s Ferry and the stories behind unmarked graves. Alongside the performance, Groundings: An Exhibition will showcase curated visual art and historical records to further illuminate these narratives.
