Philly Fringe favorite Jennifer Blaine – known for hysterical and transformational solo shows that are “funny & touching throughout” (TimeOut NY) – breaks the 4th wall and invites audiences into her latest performance experience “Getting Creative.” Combining topical stand-up comedy, interactive play, and real-time coaching, Jennifer partners with the audience to spark community, creativity and connection. Whether you consider yourself a creative novice or professional, or even if you don’t consider yourself “a creative,” “Getting Creative” offers a refreshing and enlivening boost of energy and inspiration. The show reveals how creativity opens pathways, catalyzes solutions, and connects us with one another. The theme for the upcoming Fringe performance is “Owning How Special You Are.” For nearly three decades, Jennifer has had a thriving dual career as both an in-demand performer (solo performer, voice over artist, actor, playwright, comedian) and as a transformational coach, certified by the Hendricks Institute, who works with people all around the world. The idea to finally bridge these two sides of her life came to Jennifer in an a-ha moment last year, and “Getting Creative” was born. “Over the years, I noticed how my performances sparked people to get creative in the way they are distinctly creative when they witness how I am creative. ‘Getting Creative’ is a supportive, playful space for everyone to explore the possibilities for breakthroughs in creativity and in life,” Jennifer said. “Getting Creative” toggles between performance and interaction. Audiences can expect Jennifer’s signature brand of timely stand-up, original songs and characters—and even a satirical medley of MAGA feminists in the spirit of her social media posts about current political figures. Throughout the show, the audience will also be invited to join in a back-and-forth with Jennifer that sparks meaningful conversation and creative shifts. You may make a friend at the show, discover the answer to a pressing question, or get the clarity of how to proceed with a project. Everyone walks away with something unique to them at “Getting Creative,” and we all laugh! MORE ABOUT JENNIFER BLAINE Jennifer Blaine, Philadelphia’s acclaimed solo performer, comedienne, and playwright “whose comic genius is like Lily Tomlin and Tracey Ullman” (Philadelphia Daily News), has performed with Chris Rock, George Carlin, and has brought her smart, irreverent humor to premier venues and festivals nationwide. Jennifer’s shows are a balm for those craving comedy, community, creativity and connection. Jennifer has performed at Fringe since its inception in 1997. She is a Philly Fringe Festival favorite, creating 20 original solo works for previous festivals—including a sold-out run of both “Dirty Joke” (“comedy with a conscience”) in 2013, and “Vicissitudes of Travel” (2017), a collaboration with Barrymore award winning Philadelphia theater artist Karen Getz. Acknowledged as “brillant,” (Chestnut Hill Local), the “Vicissitudes” show tracks a family’s journey through the brain surgery of their loved one and has toured to medical facilities and universities such as Jefferson University, Tufts Medical School, and Wesleyan University. With her well-received “Ridiculous” (2018), Jennifer recruited the audience to end the patriarchy once and for all by turning out the vote for the mid-term election – and succeeded! “A Jennifer Story,” in which she played both Ivana Trump and Bernie Sanders (she’s his distant cousin), championed reproductive rights has been available on demand on PhillyCAM.
