Leona's Song at Balance Arts Center

A father and daughter sail the world. A tale that begins like Peter Pan and becomes the Mahabharata.

Leona's Song is a spiritual odyssey that encompasses fatherhood, navigating dark times, letting go of what seems impossible to release, and most of all, discovering a lasting Truth when the whole world seems to disappear.

Inspired by the traditions of classical Indian storytelling, the solo play first premiered in 2022 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and later developed at Silo Cultural in Paraty, Brazil. Earlier this year, the play was workshopped in Harlem. In all three iterations, audiences have been moved by the tale of Leona and discovered a renewed sense of both their community and their truest self.

Written and directed by debut artist Morgan Hooper, the play features the original music and performance of Brazilian singer, Pedro Sá Moraes, featured in The New York Times and NPR for his award-winning voice.
