Theatrical Presentations at FRENZY FEST 2024… a festival to celebrate mental health IN THE THEATER Continuing with the tradition of Frenzy Fest, in addition to the online short films, Frenzy Fest will have in-person theatrical presentations with a psychological focus and mental health at the theater of El Barrio's Artspace PS109 starting on May 17. Additionally, this year Frenzy Fest will have a grand opening night on Friday, February 17 when the film "Five Session: by Jaime Estades will be presented. There will be a Q & A conversation after the film between the audience, Mr. Jaime Estades and students of Columbia University. School of Social Work. The renowned adjunct professor at Columbia University, Jaime Estades, invites the community to see the film of his work, Five Session. The festival has four plays and each one will have two presentations. All plays promote multicultural dialogue and tolerance towards community members who experience mental disorders such as: agitation, delirium, rage, hysteria and insanity resulting from a psychotic condition, as a result of drug or alcohol abuse, or like an episode of casual frenzy, which anyone at an extreme moment can experience. Here we give you the details: Friday, May 17 7:00 PM "The Five Sessions" by Jaime Estades “Five Sessions,” originally a play, presents a dialogue between a client and a therapist, and where the client asks the therapist a question that no one has yet answered: “Would slaves in the South feel better about the slavery if they received therapy three times a week?” With support from Columbia's Provost's Office, Estades collaborated with fellow adjuncts Dr. Ovita Williams and Ericka Echavarria, LMSW, JD, to create a film of the play, directed by Eddie Torres, for use in a new student course second-year MSW program called “Five Sessions.” Jaime A. Estades, Esq. MSW is an associate professor of social policy, social work law and advocacy at Columbia University and New York University and a doctoral professor of social policy. and research at New York University as well as a writer.
