A classic coming of age story infused with the music and culture of the 1980s. This dramatic musical comedy cleverly mashes hundreds of iconic 80s songs and movies into a mix of dialogue and song (a la the style of Moulin Rouge). Smart witty writing, delivered through a sassy theatric performance. Torrey Shine’s award-winning solo show is jam-packed with nostalgic 1980s Easter Eggs, all wrapped into a highly relatable story exploring themes of independence, rebellion, romance, betrayal, and having faith in yourself. “Don’t Stop Believing” debuted at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it achieved “sell out” performances, and was extended for a run of 31 shows. The show was recently awarded “Best Musical” at the 2024 Tucson Fringe Festival. APPETIZER: Eileen has a “heart of rock and roll” but her “parents just don’t understand.” She seeks that “crazy little thing called love.” When Rick rolls out his string of promises, you will feel it “coming in the air tonight”. They build a “love shack”, and it “hurts so good!” But when their relationship comes “’under pressure”, Eileen must decide: Should we “give love one more chance”? Or will this be “a total eclipse of the heart”? “Come on Eileen!” REVIEWS * “Brilliant comedic musical storytelling” * “Represents the spirit of the Fringe” * “Innovative, clever and highly entertaining” * "It was a real trip down Memory Lane for my partner and me, and obviously for the [other] members of the audience, who laughed with glee at the lyrics and delighted in anticipating what song was about to be referenced" * "As someone who grew up in the 80s, the musical references were spot on" * "[The] story was enthralling, funny, believable and poignant in equal measures." * "An incredible show, packed with so many references seamlessly woven into the show, this is a definite must see.” * “[What] an excellent performance" * “An absolute joy of a show” ***************************************** * “Totally captivated the audience" * “Brilliant performance! Her afternoon show… [is] a slick and clever 45 minutes… She’s a confident performer, happy to break into song here and there without backing music, and to use dance and movement where they underline the drama. Her selection of lyrics, and the way she’s combined them, is witty and inventive” (Adrian Ross @ The Reviews Hub)
