Mysterium Theater announces Auditions for The Wizard of Oz RSC version (Like the MGM Film) Based on the books by L Frank Baum Producer: Marla Ladd Director: Brooke Aston Musical Director : Chris Ring Choreographer: Jennifer Harmon Audition Dates & Times: Tues and Wed June 25 and 26 From 5:30-7 for children From 7pm on for adults Audition Location: Mysterium Theater at the La Habra Depot Playhouse 311 S Euclid La Habra Performance Dates: August 16- Sept 15 Thursday, Friday, & Saturday at 7:30pm; Sunday at 5:00pm SPECIAL SATURDAY MATINEES on Sept 13th and 6th at 3pm No conflicts accepted for Performance Dates or the week before Opening REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: June- August (please see more detailed schedule at auditions) Audition Requirements: Please come to auditions 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. Prepare 16(Children) or 32 bars (Adults) of a golden age of musical theatre song in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided. Bring sheet music in the correct key, or a pre-recorded accompaniment (with no vocals). There will also be a movement audition, so please dress appropriately; You may also be asked to read from the script. Please bring a resume listing theatrical experience, and headshot/picture (do not send in advance). Cast members do not have to be the actual ages of the characters, but must be able to look age-appropriate, and act accordingly. Note: This is a community theater production; non-Equity, we pay $1 for every full priced ticket purchased in your name. Plot Summary: Like so many girls her age, young Dorothy Gale dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day, a twister hits her farm and carries her away to another world… Come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Lion, and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy's imagination! This stage adaptation includes all the beloved songs from the classic 1939 MGM movie musical, including Munchkin land (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead), If I Only Had A Brain, If I Only Had A Heart, If I Only Had The Nerve, We're Off to See The Wizard (Follow the Yellow Brick Road),” The Merry Old Land of Oz, and – of course – “Over the Rainbow.” ~RATED G Character Breakdown: Dorothy Gale: (Female, 15-25) Strong singer who also moves well on stage; must not be allergic to dogs. Glinda (doubles as Aunt Em; Female 20-60) Strong singer; “beautiful, benevolent, and beloved,” a very maternal figure. Scarecrow (doubles as Hunk, a farmhand; Male, age 18-50) Strong singer/dancer with an honest quality; a sympathetic and optimistic friend, loveable and clumsy. Tinman (doubles as Hickory, a farmhand; Male, age 18-50) Singer and strong dancer; charming and thoughtful, a kind-hearted romantic. Lion (doubles as Zeke, a farmhand; Male, age 18-50) Singer who also moves well on stage; cuddly actor with excellent comic timing. Emerald City Guard (doubles as Uncle Henry; Male, age 35-70) A non-singing role. Also plays Dorothy’s uncle and guardian -- a good-hearted, plain-speaking, hard-working Kansas farmer who’s also an affectionate family man. Miss Almira Gulch (doubles as Wicked Witch of the West; Female, age 20-60) A non-singing role. Vengeful, nasty, and hungry for power. Professor Chester Marvel (doubles as Wizard of Oz; Male, age 30-70). A non-singing role. An older father figure with a theatrical, eccentric flair. Adult Ensemble (Male and Female, age 19-75) To play Ozians, Winkies, and various featured roles (crows, trees, etc.). Must be strong singers. Looking for 10-12 ensemble members: 5-6 good “movers,” and 5-6 good dancers with tap dancing a plus. Youth Ensemble (Male and Female, ideally age 7-18) To play Munchkins (Mayor, Barrister, City Fathers, Coroner, 3 tots, 3 toughs), Flying Monkeys, and Jitterbugs.
