AUDITIONS at Spotlighters Theatre - PLEASE READ COMPLETELY

Spotlighters Theatre holds auditions for productions approximately 8 to 10 weeks before the scheduled opening of the show.
Some roles may be pre-cast, and will be noted in the audition notice.
All actors should bring their resume, current headshot, and rehearsal conflicts to the audition.
All auditions are OPEN CALL unless noted in the specific audition notice.
For Musical Auditions, you will be asked to perform 24-32 bars of prepared music, but you may also be asked to sing another cut from that music or from another selection. An Accompanist will be provided. Sheet music in the proper key MUST be provided. A'cappella auditions are not allowed.
Please have all conflicts for the rehearsal period available, and please note on Audition Form.
Please verify that you are available for all performances.
All roles are non-equity (non-union) and are non-paid.
Spotlighters attempts to cast age appropriate actors when possible, and follows a color-blind / color-conscious casting policy when allowed by script or license.
If you are unable to attend the scheduled auditions, please send your resume and headshot to Info@spotlighters.org. If additional auditions are needed, you will be contacted.

Sunday, January 22, 2017, from 6 - 8pm

Audition Preparation
- Prepare one 2 minute monologue (not from the show)
- Prepare one musical theatre song (not from the show) up to 32 bars.
- An accompanist will be provided so bring sheet music.
- Actors should bring a headshot and resume.
- Dance auditions will occur at callbacks, please bring dance shoes and clothing suitable for movement

Show Synopsis:
The New Musical Version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Winner of 7 Tony awards, and 5 Drama Desk Awards; this beloved Broadway musical sets Dorothy's adventures in the Land of Oz to music in a dazzling, lively mixture of rock, gospel, and soul!

Character Breakdown:
AUNT EM: Female, Late 30's
Dorothy's Aunt. Life has not been easy for her and promises little else. Harsh towards Dorothy at times, but acts out of love.

DOROTHY: Female, Age flexible
Bright eyed and alive as can be. Would rather remain a child as long as possible instead of accepting the responsibilities of adulthood.

UNCLE HENRY: Male, Late 30's
Dorothy's Uncle. Physically run down from years of hard work on the farm. Often acts as the voice of reason towards Aunt Em.

ADDAPERLE: Female, Age Flexible
Good Witch of the North. Has magic powers she refers to as doing tricks. Her magic abilities don't always pan out as well as she would like them to.

SCARECROW: Male, Age Flexible
Tired of being a scarecrow and the prospect of not going anywhere. Embarks on the journey to see The Wiz in hopes he can provide a brain.

TIN MAN: Male, Age Flexible
Human at one time. Lost all his limbs to a cursed axe. Joins in the journey in hopes the Wiz will provide him a heart because “it isn’t enough to be good looking.”

LION: Male, Age Flexible
Travels around the jungle scaring people, but has “a yellow streak a mile wide.” Coward state stems from deeper mother issues and gets regular counseling from an owl. Joins in the journey to see the wiz to gain some courage.

GATEKEEPER: Male, Age Flexible Guards the gate to the Emerald City.

THE WIZ: Male, Age Flexible
All powerful leader over the land of Oz. Hides his true nature behind the facade of a temperamental leader. His true identity is an enigma.

EVILLENE: Female, Age Flexible
Wicked Witch of the West. Low-down evil. Not a kind bone in her body nor kind thought in her rotten mind.

LORD HIGH UNDERLING: Male, Age Flexible
Weak coward. Evillene's number one.

WINGED MONKEY: Male, Age Flexible
Servant of the Wicked Witch of the West. Summoned to do her bidding. The mere mention of him brings fear.

GLINDA: Female, Age Flexible
Good Witch of the South. Prettiest of all the witches. Very wise in the way of show-business.

ENSEMBLE: CHILDRENS ENSEMBLE and ADULT ENSEMBLE
TOTO - a dog, PIT SINGERS, TORNADO, MUNCHKINS (Children), CROWS, KALIDAHS, POPPIES.
