TAM has provided literature-based education programs in schools and community centers
since the Theater's founding. Education Tours make adaptations of classic literature
accessible to a geographically and economically diverse audience. Since 2005, TAM has
taken the Bard on the road through Shakespeare in Maine Communities’ tours in 60 to 90-
minute versions of Shakespeare with five to eight actors. Plays are fully designed, rehearsed,
and tour to schools and community centers. The target grade levels are middle and high
schools. This year’s tour is made possible in part by a Shakespeare in American Communities
grant from the National Endowment of the Arts.
Journey to a unique and fantastical world where spirits roam, reality is elusive, and illusion
abounds. After twelve years marooned with her daughter Miranda, the deposed duke must
choose between the desire for power and the freedom that comes with compassion. Set during
the golden age of sea exploration, The Tempest investigates individual freedom: our desire to
achieve it, our struggle to preserve it, and ultimately, our forgiveness of those who have taken
it from us.
