The Barn Theatre is searching for a boy child actor to play young Tarzan in our upcoming production of TARZAN The Stage Musical. The part of Tarzan is a large, demanding part and we are looking for a very special young boy actor!
The role is unpaid, but a small stipend will be provided.
Preliminary auditions will be held at the theatre on Sunday, June 30 starting at 2:00 pm - Meeting at the lobby entrance to the theatre. Audition group time slots will be assigned. Actors will sing individually and be led through a movement / possible tumbling combination as a group.
Character Description: Male, Age 10-14, Height: No taller than 5'2 - Athletic, Strong Singer and Mover
Audition requirements: All boys must be accompanied by a legal guardian. Actors must prepare and perform a song and bring sheet music in the correct key with appropriate music cuts - Around 16-32 bars (ish) - Full songs not needed. All boys will be led through a basic tumbling / dance / movement combination as a group. You are welcome and encouraged to also demonstrate any special physical feats or skills! Audition sides may also be provided to read at the audition. Applications must be completed and approved by a legal guardian on the day of the audition. Wear comfortable clothes that allow movement - NO OPEN TOED SHOES, FLIP FLOPS OR SANDALS PLEASE.
Commitment: We plan to select only one child actor to portray young Tarzan - the part will not be double-cast. Actors must absolutely 100% commit to our TARZAN required rehearsals and performance schedule - as follows:
- Rehearsals: July 10 - 19 - Mon-Fri: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm and 1:30 - 4:30 pm. Sat/Sun: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm - FLEXIBLE
- Shop Show Rehearsal: Sat/Sun July 20 & 21 - 9:30 am - 2:00 pm - MANDATORY
- Dress Rehearsal: Mon, July 22 - 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm - MANDATORY
- Final Rehearsal: Tues, July 23 - 1:00 - 4:30 pm - MANDATORY
- Performances: July 23 - August 4 (No Monday Performances) - Show times are as follows: Tues-Fri at 8:00 pm, Saturdayat 5:00 pm and 8:30 pm, Sunday at 5:00 pm - Actors must arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to show time - MANDATORY
Please do not attend if you cannot commit to the mandatory rehearsals and performances.
Actors who have not registered will be seen as time permits, but please do register ahead of time.
