sctjcoleman@sbcglobal.net SWEENEY TODD, THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET

When: April 8th and 9th, 2012 with callbacks on April 10 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Stockton Civic Theatre
2312 Rosemarie Lane, Stockton, CA 95207

Directed by JIM COLEMAN

Performance Dates: June 27-July 22, 2012
Cast Breakdown:
Sweeney Todd: Legit baritone. 40-50.
He has been sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit, and upon release he sets out to seek revenge on the people who killed his wife.

Mrs. Lovett: Belt and mezzo soprano. 40-50.
Pie shop owner, who lures Todd into her life. She supplies most of the humor in the piece, but she is actually the villain. She needs to have great range musically as well as dramatically.

Tobias Rigg: Tenor. 20-30.
Even though this character is a teenager, it is usually played by an adult because of the singing range, but mostly because of the depth of the character and the understanding of the very dark aspect of the character. If younger people wish to audition, they are welcome, but just know that it may go to an adult. The best person for the role will be cast.

Beggar Woman: Mezzo soprano. 30-40.
Very intense role. She plays Sweeney’s deranged wife.

Judge Turpin: 45-60. Bass. Great actor with a sense of humor.

Johanna: 20’s. Soprano.
Sweeney’s daughter and the Judge’s ward.

Anthony: 20’s. Lyric Baritone.
A sailor and Sweeney’s friend. Love interest for Johanna

Pirelli: 30-50. Tenor.
Must have a ringing high C.
A barber. An opera buffo type.

Beadle: 30-50. Legit Tenor.
A large man, the judge’s right hand. Slimy. Must have high C.

Jonas Fogg: 30-50. Runs the asylum.

There are many smaller roles that are cast from the chorus. I sincerely hope that all of the great singers that we have in our community come out and audition. It will be a wonderful experience, and one that you won’t soon forget. Such a great show for singers.
