AURORA, February 17, 2012 - The Paramount Theatre in Aurora is holding Equity and non-Equity auditions for male actor-singers 18 and over who can play an instrument (or not) and musicians who can sing (or not) for its spring production of Roger Bean's musical comedy Route 66.

Auditions are Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 2 to 6 pm, and Thursday, Feb. 24 from 10 am to 3 pm at the North Island Center, Meyer Ballroom, 8 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora, Illinois (across the street from the Paramount.)

Route 66 is a musical comedy about a gang of rowdy Chicago service station attendants who strip off their snappy uniforms and head off on a westward-bound road trip filled with music, dance and highway mischief. The show features rock and pop music from the 1950's and 60's including hits like "King of the Road," "I Get Around," "Little Old Lady from Pasadena," and of course "Route 66."

Paramount's production of Route 66 will be directed and choreographed by Stacey Flaster, director of Paramount's smash hit production earlier this season of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, with music direction by Alan Bukowiecki.

An accompanist will be provided at the auditions. Please prepare two contrasting songs appropriate to the show. According to Paramount Artistic Director Jim Corti, "The songs are a great selection of 50's and 60's rock pop standards and 'novelty' songs mixed in with country, western and folk. Again, you don't have to play an instrument to audition but if you do, bring it. Musicians who sing lead and backup vocals are a plus. It's about finding the right combination of talent that can work together as a band on this road trip of songs. And havin' a few good moves couldn't hurt either!"

Rehearsals begin Mar. 19. Performances are Apr. 11 through June 10, four shows weekly in the Copley Theatre, 8 E. Galena Blvd in downtown Aurora. Tickets are $29, and are on sale now via the Paramount Theatre box office,
