Don Pedro, Prince of Aragon. Recently victorious and returning to Messina after the conclusion of the
war. 40s-50s.
Benedick, of Padua, a lord and companion of Don Pedro. Romantically conflicting with Beatrice. Mid
30s-40s.
Claudio, of Florence, a lord and companion of Don Pedro. Romantically involved with Hero. Variable
age.
Balthasar, attendant on Don Pedro, a singer. Variable age.
Don John, the bastard brother of Don Pedro. A villain, and hateful of his brother. 20s-50s.
Borachio, a follower of Don John and a scoundrel. 20s-40s.
Conrad, a follower of Don John and a ruffian. Variable age.
Leonato, Governor of Messina. Father of Hero and uncle to Beatrice. 50s-60s.
Hero, daughter of Leonato. Romantically involved with Claudio. Late teens through twenties.
