Breakdown

ELLA HARDING, 40s, a married middle-class suburban woman who after her near death has begun to question her choices in life, feels like a lost soul much of the time, and longs for more meaning in her day-to-day existence. As a result of her near death, she has acquired a hyper-active electro-magnetic field that sometimes causes light bulbs to explode when she gets upset.

HANK HARDING, 40s, Ella's husband, who drowned with her in a boating accident. His near death has left him feeling cynical and grumpy, and has sparked in him an insatiable thirst for knowledge which translates into an obsession with medical books. He has a deep emotional life which is usually repressed. Please read script for more info on roles.

DR. BERNARD SCHROEDER, 50s or 60s, is a fatherly figure who tries to maintain order at the institute where the others all now stay, listens to their problems, and gives them a lot of meds. He is often bumbling in his approach, but always well-meaning. In private, he is lonely.
