Middlebury Community Players announce auditions for
FOUR BEERS, a play by David Van Vleck, Jr.
The Middlebury Community Players have announced plans to stage the comedy FOUR BEERS by New York/Vermont writer David Van Vleck, Jr., at Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater in February 2014. The son of MCP founder Eunice Van Vleck of Cornwall, David is a graduate of Middlebury Union High School and studied acting at the Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City. After being selected for the Shenandoah and Seven Devils Playwriting Conferences and winning the Dayton (Ohio) Playhouse Futurefest, FOUR BEERS had productions in New York City (with Tony-award winning actors), as well as Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Ohio.
The play concerns a group of middle-aged men, hard-working small business owners, who regularly get together in a neighborhood bar to watch the Monday night football game. With the TV broken, their evening evolves into a hilarious gabfest about the things that matter to them most, their work and their wives, their problems and situations immediately recognizable to us, and finally concludes in an unexpected twist. Anyone interested in bringing these characters to life is welcome to audition. The roles are for five men ranging in age from 40-60.
Auditions will be held on Saturday and Sunday, December 7 and 8, at 1:00 p.m., at the Mary Hogan Elementary School in Middlebury (201 Mary Hogan Drive 05753).
Joyce Huff, frequent director and actor for the Players as well as other area companies, will direct FOUR BEERS. Algy Layden is producer, with Kate Tilton as stage manager. Rehearsals will begin in mid-December. FOUR BEERS will be presentedFebruary 13-16, 2014, at Town Hall Theater, featuring an opening night reception to meet the playwright.
