The classic 1987 motion picture fantasy starring Tom Hanks bursts onto the stage in the unforgettable theatrical experience, BIG, THE MUSICAL. The story centers around Josh, a child who makes a wish to be grown, and upon fulfillment of that wish, discovers there's much more to being an adult than he's bargained for. This rare glimpse into adulthood through the eyes of a child reminds us that some of our child-like qualities are best ones to hold on to.
With upbeat musical numbers, a funny script, a large cast of actors, ages 8-88, experienced or new to the stage, CYT- North Idaho is producing their first summer musical with adults playing adults! Christian Community Theater or CCT is the parent company of CYT's across the nation. In fact, the original CYT in San Diego grew out of CCT when they produced The Sound of Music in 1980.
CYT-North Idaho, who has brought shows like The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka, Annie, and most recently, Hercules to the Kroc Worship Theater since May 2009, is hoping Big, the Musicalwill bring in some much needed funds to sustain the children's program during the summer months.
All CYT shows are cast with children ages 8-18. Big,the Musical provides a perfect script with parts for young children, their parents and their grandparents! This is an opportunity for any adult who has seen a CYT-North Idaho show to actually join the fun...on stage!
Auditions are on July 6 at 4 p.m, Saturday, July 7 at 10 a.m., and Callbacks at 2 p.m.on Saturday. Auditions will be held at Christ the King Church, 1700 E. Pennsylvania Ave., CdA.
Performance dates are Aug 9-19. The New York Times wrote, "Big is so exuberantly gifted it gives you the helium high of a balloon flight...It worked as a movie; It works as a show!" USA Today called it "the ideal family musical."
