It seems only fitting that the final Rodgers & Hammerstein collaboration was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. When postulant Maria Rainer proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval officer, Captain von Trapp. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, clash with the Captain, his fiancee and eventually the Nazis as they seize power of her Austrian homeland. The well-known, Oscar-winning motion picture version remains the most popular movie musical of all time. Featuring such classic songs as "Climb Every Mountain," "Do Re Mi", "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and the enchanting title song "The Sound of Music," this is a timeless show worth reintroducing to your family again and again.
