The beloved story of sisters facing a changing world as they grow will come to life onstage this August when Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center stages the play Little Women adapted by Kate Hamill based on the book by Louisa May Alcott. Little Women will be presented at duCret Center of Art, Plainfield August 3-6. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 6: Kate Hamill’s version of the novel reimagines the classic story for today’s audiences while staying true to the story of young women struggling with what it means to grow up in a nation torn apart by the Civil War. Jo March doesn’t want to be like other girls. She longs to see the world and share her writing. But she has to contend with what is happening in her family and in the world around them. Gender roles, political beliefs, poverty, and even love threatens the family, as the March sisters try to reconcile their identities with society’s demands. Tickets for Little Women are available for purchase at www.dragonflyartsnj.org/purchase-tickets and at the venue. Advance tickets--those purchased before August 1--are $18.00 for adults and $13.00 for seniors and students. After August 1, the tickets prices will be $20 and $15. Audience members are asked to bring chairs for the outdoor performance. However, if it rains, we'll be indoors, and chairs will be provided.
