Written when the composer was just 18, the piece is both an homage to Beethoven and an exploration of Mendelssohn's own distinct musical voice. Its rich harmonies, intricate counterpoint, and lyrical beauty create an evocative and stirring experience for the listener. Following this, the ensemble will perform Schumann’s Quintet for Piano and Strings in E flat major, Op. 44, one of the most celebrated works of the chamber music repertoire. Schumann’s quintet, written in 1842, combines piano and strings in a way that balances grandeur and intimacy, featuring lively rhythms, dramatic contrasts, and tender melodies. The work’s exuberant energy and heartfelt lyricism have made it a favorite among both musicians and audiences alike. The ensemble is made up of esteemed musicians: Laura Hamilton (violin), Sylvia Rubin (violin), Francesca Silos (viola), Lanny Paykin (cello), and Sojung Lee (piano). Their performance promises to bring out the nuanced depth and vibrant emotion of these classic pieces.
