The Laramie Project at Court Street Theatre

Nashua Theatre Guild is proud to present The Laramie Project by Moisés Kaufman and the Members of Tectonic Theater Project at the Court Street Theatre (Janice C. Streeter Theatre), 14 Court Street, Nashua, NH, October 13 - 15, 2023.

In October 1998, a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, bruised and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay.

In the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard, Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half and conducted more than 200 interviews with town residents. These texts became the basis for the play The Laramie Project. 

Kaufman and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical narrative from these interviews and their own experiences in Laramie.The Laramie Project is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

The cast of The Laramie Project includes Sean Bonta of Derry; Pamela Thornhill, Cantay Ozkan, Julie Shea and A;yson Galipeau of Nashua; Richard Griffiths of Peabody, MA; Liz Fontanella of Pelham; Joey Phoenix of Sommerville, MA; and Beth Venuti of Windham. The play is directed by Beth Schwartz of Nashua.

The Laramie Project will be staged by the Nashua Theatre Guild on October 13, 14 and 15, with shows on Friday and Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. General admission tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors (65+), students and UU Church of Nashua members. Online tickets can be purchased by visiting our website NashuaTheatreGuild.org. The theater is air-conditioned and wheelchair accessible.
