Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage is a story about two sets of Brooklyn parents who share the same local shops and parks but were it not for a playground altercation between their eleven-year-old boys perhaps would never have met. Meeting to resolve the matter, a short and casual conversation becomes something altogether more complex as challenges are made and tensions rise. With the aid of a bottle of rum, each of the characters challenges the other’s liberal thinking, forcing each of them to face the scrutiny and adversity they most richly deserve. These adult parents emerge from the meeting in a much darker place, having devolved into the type of people they ultimately abhor.
