Ambassador extraordinary for Canadian modern dance, Margie Gillis recently received the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for lifetime artistic achievement. The grande dame returns to the stage with a new piece that is the fruit of a lifetime of artistic questioning. Consisting of solos, duos and trios, the dance unfolds in a modular stage set by Randal Newman, an internationally renowned painter and sculptor and someone with whom Gillis long dreamed of working. Light and luminous, the piece is a revelation of all the hope that is so much a part of poignant human vulnerability. Fluid and deeply moving.
