Theatre 55 is excited to celebrate summer with the Tony Award winning musical, A CHORUS LINE, Book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, Music by Marvin Hamlisch, Lyrics by Edward Kleban, July 14 - 23, 2023 at the Caponi Art Park Amphitheater, 1220 Diffley Road, Eagan, MN 55123. A CHORUS LINE, the 1975 musical that took Broadway by storm with songs like “I Hope I Get It”, “I Can Do That”, “At The Ballet”, “What I Did For Love”, and “One”. With themes of acceptance, body imagery, aging out, being invisible, being gay in a heterosexual world, and unsung heroes, this story resonates as strongly today as it did in 1975; especially for the 55+ community. This is the kind of connection that Theatre 55 has always sought to find with its productions. Our productions of Hair re-awakened hippie ideals, Pippin’s self-doubt and self-exploration translated a youthful quest into a midlife crisis, Urinetown brought out a spirit of communal protest, Rocky Horror unlocked the shackles of sexual taboo, Jesus Christ Superstar enveloped the dangers of “group think”, and Rent reminded us that life is precious, especially when entering the golden years. Theatre 55 was formed with the purpose of developing lifelong learning through theatre performance and education. Our vision is to enrich the lives of elders as artists, audiences, and lifelong learners through theatrical performance and education. Theatre 55 aims to produce high-energy, impactful productions utilizing the senior artists of our community. We strive to engage with vibrant seniors living throughout the Twin Cities and beyond through classes, workshops, showcases, and performance. This mission plays out in this production with a cast of 26 actors/singers/dancers aged 55 - 75, who take a youth-focused, angsty production, and turn it into a meaningful and thought-provoking musical with an emphasis on the impact of aging in America. Theatre 55 is committed to equitable access to its shows. Seating is in a true amphitheater setting, bring a blanket or chair, a snack, and a beverage of choice. Tickets range in price from $15 for individuals to $30 for a car load of up to 6 people. Patrons have the opportunity to choose the amount that best fits their budget. Tickets available at theatre55.org.
