Agatha Christie is known throughout the world as the Queen of Crime. She is the most widely published author of all time. “The Stranger” is an adaptation made by Ms. Christie of her short story “Philomel Cottage” in the 1930s. If you’re a fan of sensational drama and the occasional thriller, A.C.T. Studio Theatre in Stuart has the show for you this November. Enid Bradshaw has led a staid and proper existence. For her, there is nothing exciting about the prospect of marriage to her long-time fiancé Dick Lane. She seeks some adventure in her life. Enter Gerald Strange, a handsome and charming gentleman who sweeps her off her feet. She abandons her job, friends and fiancé to marry her new love, and blissfully settles in a remote and secluded country cottage with him. Enid’s newfound love, however, is not what he seems. Little does she know the ghastly truth about her bridegroom. To quote Ms. Christie’s character Gerald Strange in Act III: “ . . . Woman’s weakness is man’s opportunity. Did Shakespeare say that or did I think of it myself? I believe I thought of it. If so, it’s good, it’s damned good!” We’re not so sure Mr. Strange is good, but come see for yourself as A.C.T. presents “The Stranger” on Nov. 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20. Performances are Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 3:00 and 8:00 p.m., Sundays at 3:00 p.m. Reserved seating is $26.
