“Dance for Peace” will be performed outdoors, in front of 1020 Ocean Drive on May 27th, 2024, beginning at 2pm. This anti-gun violence art piece will feature NYC-based soloist dancers, Madelaine Burnett and Tomislav Nevistic, as they perform in the very site where they found themselves in the middle of a shooting in 2022. “It was one of the most surreal moments. There was no time to think. We were just trying to escape and stay alive.” Nevistic says. ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Both Burnett and Nevistic were formally members Martha Graham’s second company, Graham 2. They are currently soloist dancers of Alison Cook Beatty Dance, with which they tour throughout the USA for major national festivals and at award winning venues. Internationally recognized for their work, Ms Burnett has been featured by Global Canada, News 12, Dance International Magazine, Dance Enthusiast, the National Performing Arts Funding Exchange and more, and Mr Nevistic has appeared on platform including CBC News, Eyewitness News and Broadway world. In their own ways they prioritize dancing for important causes. “Through art we aim to raise awareness of critical topics and to unite individuals with their communities. No community should have place for violence or weapons. “Dance for Peace” is light to drive out darkness.,” says Burnett.
