World Premiere of Henry Ong's modern adaptation of Spanish Renaissance Playwright Tirso de Molina's "Jealous of Herself." A madcap comedy of disguise and deception set in modern day Los Angeles
Dashing Melchor unexpectedly falls in love with a mysterious, completely veiled lady (Magdalena) outside a cathedral, and she with him. He later meets her sans veil but not recognizing her as the lady from the cathedral, is unimpressed, thus igniting Magdalena's jealousy--of herself! This scenario sets the stage for Henry Ong's modern take on a 17th century Spanish play that is surprisingly relevant today, in light of society's obsession with outward beauty and how it relates to self-worth.
Adapted from Tirso de Molina’s, “La Celosa De Si Mismo" by Henry Ong from a translation by Harley Erdman
Directed by Denise Blasor.
Original Music and Sound Design by Longo Chu.
Performances every Sunday at 7 p.m. from June 24 to August 26, 2018
