Pulling the curtain back on one of our country’s most well-known events, 2023 Hollywood Fringe Encore Award-winning duo, Sunny Gingham, returns with a brand new historical drama, Our American Tragedy. Set in the spring of 1865, Lincoln’s America is 4 days post-war and completely divided. At Ford’s Theatre, actors and crew gear up for a celebratory run of Our American Cousin for the final performance of famed British actress, Laura Keene. With news of the president’s visit ringing backstage, some bustle with excitement while others couldn’t be more dissatisfied. Moments after Lincoln is shot, all who are backstage learn that they are being detained and quickly become suspects. Desperate to avert the gallows, accusations fly across the room as people defend their level of involvement or lack thereof. In the hours following Booth’s great escape, the detained are left to wonder: who knew, who lied, and who took the truth to their graves?
