Kirsten Edkins, celebrates the release of her album ‘Shapes and Sound’ by debuting new material from the album with bandmates Lemar Guillary on trombone, Andrew Synowiec on guitar, Ahmet Turkmenoglu on bass and Chris Wabich on drums at the Baked Potato on March 18. The album has been described by Phil Freeman at Stereogum as having “bluesy grooves and thoughtful interplay between the horns that one would expect from a classic Blue Note release of the mid ’60s” and Edkins playing as “frequently surpris[ing] you with phrases that seem to go against the grain of the music without sounding disruptive for the sake of disruption.” Douglas Moore at The Sound Advocate has also described the record as “one of the best play-through jazz albums this year.” Sets at 8pm and 10pm.
The Baked Potato is at 3787 Cahuenga Blvd, Studio City, CA.
