The Weekend Theater will stage Naomi Iizuka’s “Good Kids” Jan. 10-25 at the theater, 1001 W. 7th St. in Little Rock.
Show dates are Jan. 10, 11, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24 and 25. The Sunday matinee on Jan. 19 starts at 2:30 p.m. All other shows start at 7:30 p.m.
Set at a Midwestern high school, in a world of Facebook and Twitter, smartphones and YouTube, “Good Kids” explores a casual sexual encounter gone wrong and its very public aftermath. The play is loosely based on a 2012 Steubenville High School case, in which a female student was sexually assaulted by her peers who documented the incident on social media.
“The themes in Good Kids are very much relevant because we live in a digital age where technology and social media are ingrained in our culture,” said Andrea McDaniel, who directs the play. “I hope our production will lead to more open discussions and a greater knowledge of ways we can help others affected by sexual violence.”
Tickets cost $16 for adults and $12 for students, seniors and military. To reserve online, visit centralarkansastickets.com. For more information, call 501-374-3761.
